Leadership in Safety Research

JP Research has pioneered a number of important safety-related projects, including government and industry-sponsored research such as trauma injury profile development for local counties and investigation of older driver injuries, anti-theft device effectiveness, and vehicle compatibility issues. Several JP Research projects have resulted in client submissions of reports to NHTSA dockets, including those for Rollover Prevention, Seat Belts, Anti-Theft Devices, and Roof Crush Resistance.

Statistical Research

JP Research has been involved in statistical and engineering studies of rollovers (stability/handling), vehicle roof strength, front and rear seat restraint systems, airbags, vehicle compatibility, and vehicle component (e.g., transmission, braking system) performance. JP Research has performed statistical analyses using warranty/claims/production data for vehicle component manufacturers.

Seminars and Courses

Principals of JP Research have been regularly invited to speak at SAE, AAAM, IRCOBI, and TOPTEC conferences, seminars, and symposiums. For example, Jeya Padmanaban, the president of JP Research, delivered a keynote address for the 2007 Symposium on International Automotive Technology in India and has taught numerous short courses, including a course on “The Aging Driver on the Road,” at Stanford University and “U.S. FARS and NASS Data” at an IRCOBI seminar in Graz, Austria.

Ms. Padmanaban was also an instructor for the JP Research co-sponsored seminar ‘Road Safety – Miles to Go Before We Sleep?’ in India in 2006 and ‘Biomechanics, Vehicle Safety and Accident Analysis’ in 2007. Courses she taught included: “Overview of Motor Vehicle Crash Data by Country”; “Effectiveness of Seat Belts, Air Bags, and Child Safety Seats”; “Crash Data Collection / Maintenance / Application by Federal and State Transportation Agencies in the US”; “Injuries to Children”; and “Pedestrian Accidents and Injuries in Asia, Europe, and the U.S.”.

Data Linkage

Many of JP Research's contracts involve linking data from various sources for analyses. The Traffic Safe Communities projects, for example, involved linking and analyzing police, hospital, trauma center, and other agency records of motor vehicle crashes for high-population counties.

Databases

JP Research has one of the largest single repositories of accident data obtained from federal and state agencies. Read More >>
